| Famitsu.com has updated their
game profile page for Tingle RPG with a release date of September
2nd, 2006 in Japan and will retail for 4800 Yen. The official NCL
release list for the Nintendo DS area goes through September 28th
and does not include Tingle RPG, but nevertheless, Famitsu.com is
probably the most respected gaming publication on the planet, so we
trust their info. |
| |
| The story goes that Tingle,
who you actually start off as a normal man who is a 35-year old virgin
(just shy of the 40-year old virgin), has a dream in which he is told
about this paradise known as Rupee Land. There he meets Old Man Rupee,
an actual "rupee" man as seen in the screenshots, who promises
the man all he dreams of if he fulfils an agreement. If he can go
to this magic spring and toss in enough rupees, a pathway to Rupee
Land will open and he will enjoy all that he desires. |
|

|
| The catch is, as the Old Man
Rupee explains, he must become "Tingle" and be cursed to
die if he runs out of Rupees. The man agrees to these two conditions
(to become Tingle, and to die if he runs out of rupees) and then sets
off into the normal world to achieve his ultimate dream of reaching
Rupee Land. |
| |
| Some of the key components of
the gameplay involves the balance of rupees. The examples given include
a boss battle, in which Tingle has to spend rupees to fight the creature,
which also can cause him to loose rupees if he is damaged. Tingle
is not a skilled warrior, and thus must employ unique strategies to
overcome such obstacles. |
|
| |
| Another key ingredient is the
obtaining of items, and selling them. Tingle will come across vendors
who will sell items, or buy them from Tingle. However, it is not smart
all the time to sell off all your products - you can combine certain
items as "ingredients" into Tingle's "mixing pot",
which you can then form "compound items" which have greater
value and can be of better use to Tingle later on in the game. |
| |
| Tingle can also earn rupees
by helping out others and entering into "contracts" with
people, in which if he performs a certain task, he will be paid a
finite amount for his efforts. This may seem very easy, but this is
everyday life - Tingle will incur expenses as he journey's along.
For example, if Tingle entered into a contract job, and fails to accomplish
it under the set parameters, he will actually be out money to the
client. |
| |
| The goal of the game is to
outweight your expenses with big gains, and it is made clear that
expenses are unavoidable, and so a bit of strategy goes into the game
if you wish to be successful. The last segment of the update elaborates
on the spring and the tower. Eventually you can make the tower reach
far into the heavens, and there is a map of the area Tingle can go
to in the game. |
| |
| There is no word yet on a release
date in North America, but DS is region-free, so you should be able
to import this. However, since this seems very much like a text-heavy
adventure, unlike most Zelda games, knowing Japanese will probably
determine if you should even bother because you'll probably get lost
quickly. Hopefully we generate enough interest in this game so Nintendo
will release it stateside. |
