Voted "Gayest" Character
The Legend of Zelda series
just seems to be extremely popular with the homosexual gaming community
(as well as females, males, children and adults - no wonder it is
so popular). Today, GayGamer.net ranked its top twenty most "gay"
characters in video games. Take one wild guess who took home the grand
prize by going off the meter on their "gaydar"?
Tingle, that thirty-five year-old
man who pretends to be a fairy, took home top honors from GayGamer.net's
awards for gayest characters. Set to start in his own game later this
year in Japan, and already a mainstay of the series appearing in six
titles to date (according to Nintendo), Tingle is quickly giving Link
a run for his money in the spotlight here in North America.
In addition to this award, awhile
back Link won the "hottest" video game character award from
a magazine that specializes in homosexual culture. Honestly, I'm not
shocked. Nintendo really hasn't solidified Link's sexual status, and
even Comedy Central has taken a stab at the gender-confused Hylian
with their portrayal of "Xandir" on their popular animated
reality series "Drawn Together". Also, from what I've seen,
there's as many female Link cosplayers as there are males.
Personally, I would like it
if Link ended up with Zelda in Twilight Princess, even if Nintendo
never has them romantically involved again. We can have just one game
where something happens - it won't ruin the series or end the world.
But alas, perhaps this is just one of the many facets of the Zelda
franchise that makes it so widely accepted and popular. Who knows?
